We Engage Agency

Selected work

Films made with organizations that had something worth saying.

Some of this is institutional. Some of it is a corner shop in Long Beach that turned into a festival film. The through-line is interviews. Getting the real people to say the true thing, then building the picture around it.

Anchor case study · Nonprofit & arts

Five years with the Los Angeles Master Chorale.

From 2018 to 2022 — event films, fundraising pieces, and the Big Sing, which puts thousands of untrained voices in one room and asks them to sing together.

Arts institutions plan on a seasonal calendar, which means every renewal is a deliberate decision made months ahead by people who have already watched last year's film with their board. Being on that calendar five years running is the endorsement.

The run opened with Big Sing California, where as their editing team we delivered exactly what the Chorale wanted to showcase after their statewide event. By Big Sing 2022 our team was carrying the film the whole way — the edit, the master, and delivery. The finished project was ours to land, which is the handoff an institution only makes once it has stopped checking the work.

PostHandled in full

What we handled: the edit from the first project, then post-production end to end — assembly and edit, the finishing master, and delivery in the formats the client's own channels needed. No second vendor between the footage and the screen.

Why a reviewer should care: an event like the Big Sing happens once and is never re-shot. Handing that cut to the same partner five seasons running is a judgement about reliability under a deadline, not about taste.

The season a theatre came back.

Altadena Music Theatre

Altadena Music Theatre is a non-profit that had to rebuild its season after the fire. We made a run of films for the company, and they went out while it was asking its community and its funders to help it get back on stage.

They got there. Support and grant funding came in, programming returned, and Little Shop of Horrors has been playing to sold-out houses — the run is still going. We made the films for that season; the company did the hard part.

The work spanned formats deliberately. Longer pieces for the website and the funding conversation, and two short films built for the feeds where a local audience actually finds a show — including the build of Audrey II, the eleven-foot puppet at the centre of the production, and the largest the company has made.

The season the films were made for — and it sold out.

Why a reviewer should care: one client, one season, two very different formats. Work that can sit in a grant conversation, and a short built for a phone screen — made by the same team, so they say the same thing in the two places a non-profit actually needs them.

The first of two cuts we shot and edited for the company, built for the feed rather than trimmed down to fit it.

Encore

The second cut, and the one the company posted to their own feed — the response below is to this.

The aim was to fill the house. The company posted the cut to their own feed, and this is what came back — people who had already been, and people saying they were going. The show has been playing to sold-out houses since.

Brand & commercial

Magic Hair Company

A four-year relationship, 2015 to 2019, through the move from e-commerce to a Culver City storefront — rebrand support, product and model photography, and two television campaigns.

Two TV ad campaigns increased store traffic by 40%.

The client went on camera about the work themselves. That testimonial and the commercial it refers to are both below.

In their words

It was a delight working with David for our company introduction video. … I would enthusiastically recommend David to any company and or production team.
